Voice of Canterbury Choir Festival

Tuesday was a big day for our choir. The group spent the day at La Vida doing workshops and rehearsals for the Voice of Canterbury Festival.

The Festival vision is: "Our vision was to establish a choir festival that is popular music oriented and focuses on enjoyment of music and choral singing, rather than a competition between schools. The main aim of this event is to encourage performing amongst peers and as a community." (from Voices of Canterbury website )
During the evening performance, each school performed their pre-rehearsed items as well as a massed item rehearsed during the afternoon workshop.
It was a very long but productive day with students learning a lot about singing in a choir.
Hagley came away with 2 awards:
Best Performance of a New Zealand song - Royals
School Spirit Award - this is voted on by all the choirs there and is a sought after award for the Festival.
