Welcome to the Hagley Community College learning@hcc blog site. In the future expect to see postings from various members of staff and students on subjects that are educational, comical or simply informative about life and learning at Hagley Community College. We are hoping that people will offer up podcasts, videos, examples of students' work etc to add to the blog. Any ideas or postings etc can be emailed to sue.mclachlan@hagley.school.nz.

Radio show on Plains FM
Lesley Cowie's ESOL class has a monthly radio show on 96.9 Plains FM.
It is quite an undertaking for students whose first language is not English but they do a fantastic job of this.
The students are from many different countries including Ethiopia, Somalia, Nepal, Cambodia, Afghanistan, China and Samoa.
They are between 14 and 20 years old.
As they progress through the year they will have more and more responsibility in the show. It is 25 minutes long and it is played on the first Monday of each month (excluding school holidays).
You can hear the latest show here:

Spotty Day
Here are a couple of prizes winning photos from the recent Fundraising day. There were some fantastic spotty outfits from both staff and students. As usual, the enrolment centre turned out a superb display, and Jenny O'Sullivan was voted the winner for her wonderful outfit. The school raised $125 for the Melanoma Foundation. Thanks to all those who supported this venture.

Social Science postcards
-->
Here are a couple of postcards from Celia
King’s Social Science class – 10WM. The topic is migration, about understanding
that people move. Students were asked to send a postcard from an exciting
destination. Many of them had visited places of natural beauty in the world.
They understood the need to inquire after their reader’s wellbeing.
