Youth Parliament

Every three to four years the Ministry of Youth Development coordinates New Zealand’s Youth Parliament. Young people are selected by members of Parliament to take part in debates in the Chamber and hold youth select committee meetings.
In the last school holidays Hagley student Hanna Deal represented Ruth Dyson at the Youth Parliament in Wellington.

Sports roundup

Basketball
Year 10 Boys - Up against a vastly improved Aidanfield team, our boys struggled to match their play. The boys never dropped their heads though, finishing with a flurry of points at the end of both halves. Final score was 49-21, with player of the day again being awarded to Ezra Wood for his fine shooting.

Junior Boys - Unfortunately for the junior boys, for whatever reason, they severely struggled with numbers this week. Up against the supremely skilled Christchurch Adventist team, they eventually succeeded with a 60-18 loss after such a strong start where they were well in the game for the first 20 mins.

Netball
Junior Girls - A much improved performance from the girls, they eventually triumphed 19-10 against a strong challenge from Aidanfield Christian School. Thanks must go again to Sheyanne for refereeing the girls.

Senior Girls - Another strong performance from the seniors saw them tough out a solid win against a talented Villa Maria squad 18-14.

Badminton

Boys - Unfortunately for the boys, they again struggled to field a full team which no doubt did not help. While most games were close against Cashmere 7-2.

Girls - Similar story as for the boys. While most games were extremely close, the girls struggled to close out any of their games and eventually lost the match 9-0.

Football
Girls - The girls squad had a great win against St Margaret's College 1-0, owing to a brilliant matchwinner from Liza Mckenzie. Great result girls!

Boys 7-a-side - Unfortunately our rather youthful boys team came up against a senior Kaiapoi High side who were simply too fast and powerful for our boys. Final score was 5-1 to Kaiapoi, with Mustafa Azimi showing great resolve to score our only goal.

Hagley Creative Writers

Have a look at the poems and stories on the Christchurch Art Gallery website by the Level 2 Creative Writing class. Students would love comments so go ahead on any stories or poems you especially like. Commenting is easy and doesn't require registration.

I stumbled into their lair on accident, and found myself in a madhouse of reptilian decree. I immediately froze, in a vain hope they had not noticed me in my peculiarity, but my attempts were feeble, I had been seen. I felt a cold sweat and a shiver ran down my spine as they glared at me with beady black eyes from a nebulous of smoke and dust that choked the room.
